American Airlines adds daily Boeing 777-300ER flights between JFK & Miami in may

American Airlines has added domestic Boeing 777-300ER flights between New York and Miami, offering passengers daily itineraries between the two cities in May.

Widebody aircraft between New York and Miami

According to data from the aviation analytics company Cirium's Diio Mi airline planning tool, American Airlines should operate daily 777-300ER flights between New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Miami International Airport (MIA) in May.

So far, May is the only month of 2025 that would see the 777-300ER operating the route.

In April, the carrier scheduled its Boeing 737-800 and 737 MAX 8s to operate 28 and 21 weekly itineraries between New York-JFK (not including other New York area airports) and Miami, respectively.

In comparison, in May 2024, American Airlines had two weekly flights with the Airbus A319ceo and 27 each with the 737-800 and 737 MAX 8 aircraft, resulting in a total of 9,544 weekly seats on flights between the two East Coast cities.

Compared to May 2024, the airline removed the two A319ceo flights and six 737 MAX 8 flights, adding one 737-800 weekly itinerary and the daily 777-300ER flights during the same month in 2025, Cirium’s Diio Mi data indicated.

As a result, while the number of weekly flights should remain the same, the number of weekly seats could grow up to 10.6% year-on-year (YoY).

Replacing Los Angeles

The New York-JFK to Miami 777-300ER route will replace American Airlines flight AA313, which, in May 2024, operated between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Miami with the same widebody aircraft type.

Interestingly, Los Angeles will lose all but one of its widebody flights in May. This includes flights from/to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Miami, Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD), and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).

The map above displays the domestic routes that American Airlines operated with twin-aisle jets from/to Los Angeles in May 2024.

Meanwhile, the only remaining domestic flight from the Californian airport is a 777-200 itinerary between Los Angeles and Dallas/Fort Worth, namely flight AA2766.

Widebody domestic network changes

However, American Airlines should add more widebody flights within the US. Cirium’s Diio Mi records showed that in May, the airline has scheduled daily flights between Chicago and Miami, the aforementioned itineraries between New York-JFK and Miami, and an additional daily widebody flight between Dallas/Fort Worth and Philadelphia.

Apart from cuts to the domestic widebody network from/to Los Angeles, further changes are also coming to itineraries between Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami.

The airline has removed double-daily flights operated by either the 777-200 or the 787-8 , adding a single daily flight with the 737 MAX 8.

As a result, its flights connecting Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami should be operated by the A321ceo, A321neo , 737-800, and 737 MAX 8 in May, with a total of 77 weekly itineraries, or seven fewer than in May 2024.
