American Airlines experience flight delays at Albert J. Ellis Airport

Albert J. Ellis Airport in Richlands saw delays on Monday due to weather in Charlotte.

The airport has two main airlines, Delta and American, with hubs in Atlanta and Charlotte.

Passengers on American flights saw delays and changes to their travel.

“I was scheduled to leave at 11 this morning,” said Lyn Derway, a traveler heading back to New York.

“When I saw that it was delayed, my first thought was I was going to miss my connection in Charlotte which in fact is what happened.”

Derway spent the holidays with her son in Jacksonville, but with the delays, her flight is going from Richlands to Charlotte to Washington DC to New York.

“Instead of getting in at 3:30 this afternoon,” said Derway. “I am going to get in at 11:30 at night.

I will have four hours to kill at the Charlotte airport, so it is very frustrating.”

Airport officials say two inbound flights and three outbound flights were impacted by the delays.

Tim Sellman, who lives in Emerald Isle, was going to San Diego for a business trip.

However, with the delays on Monday, his connection in Charlotte is shorter than he planned.

“I had an hour and a half connection and that’s all been eating up now,” Sellman told WITN. “They might have to find another way to re-accommodate me or something.”

While many experienced delays, David Woods says his travel day was smooth sailing.

“I haven’t seen any delays thus far,” said Woods. “That’s why I am kinda shocked to hear about other delays.”

Officials suggest arriving at the airport ahead of the boarding time and keeping an eye on the airline app or airport website.
