The head of Ducati will face 2025 with six bikes in total on the grid, as we remember that his second team Prima Pramac Racing left and will begin to form part of the Yamaha orbit.
To replace it, the Borgo Panigale factory will have the VR46 as its first satellite team, with one of its bikes being the GP25. The Italian gave an interview to the Australian Motorcycle media.
In this interview, the first topic he was able to talk about was the problem related to the economy and the change of regulations, so he said:
“The cost issue is a major problem for everyone, also because on an economic level we will face two complicated years, seeing what is happening right now in the world. Developing a completely new engine for 2027 or rather a completely new bike, as there will no longer be ride height devices and aerodynamics will be limited. There will be a lot of changes and developing them at the same time as the current bike would have been quite complicated, especially for European manufacturers.”
On the other hand, Dall'Igna talked about the keys to the current MotoGP, confessing that it is not something simple:
"The braking point and stability are now key, you need that to overtake, that is really difficult now"
The 2024 season has been characterised by the great dominance of Ducati. In many cases, it has been the Ducatis that have occupied the first positions on the podium and even in the Top 6.
Dall'Igna also confessed that, from now on, this will be difficult:
“Next year it will be impossible to achieve results like in Japan and Australia. But even monopolising the podium as we have done lately will be more difficult. Ducati comes out well, especially from a sporting point of view, with these results.”
On the other hand, the Italian spoke about the risks Ducati has taken, stating that it was a good one and that it paid off:
“The advantages that the others had, especially Honda and Yamaha, are many, so I expected to have to suffer a little more this season. That’s why we took a few more risks at the beginning of the year, knowing that the others could progress during the season and we didn’t. And our risk obviously paid off. Every time I perceive a slight reduction in performance or that the gap with the others is narrowing, I put significant pressure on my guys. These championships are a big thank you to all the staff at Ducati Corse.”
If there is one thing that everyone is looking forward to, it is Marc Marquez on the Ducati, who is also Pecco Bagnaia’s teammate.
Dall’Igna has significant faith in Pecco, though:
“I think Pecco Bagnaia can write many important pages in the history of motorcycling. Pecco won two world championships in a row and there are not many riders who can say they have done the same. And this year he was fighting for his third. Right now he is the benchmark rider in MotoGP.”
“Jorge Martín is certainly very fast. In some races he was faster than Pecco, but in others Pecco was certainly faster. In addition, Pecco has a better race vision than the other drivers at the moment.
From a mental point of view, Jorge has definitely improved. Pecco showed that growth in 2023.
Now it was Jorge’s turn” he said about the World Championship winner, before continuing to talk about his victory:
“Let Jorge Martin win? Maybe someone else would have done something else. But those people who would have done something else have never looked at my record. In the end, this is a sport and it must remain a sport. For me, the best driver has to win. For me it was important to have a fair fight for the championship between these two drivers, to the point that we did not bring any technical development for the last few races, thus avoiding one being treated better than the other.”
Finally, Dall'Igna dedicated a few words to Marc Marquez and how he thinks his performance will be in 2025:
“I am convinced that we have the best possible solution for the Ducati riders next year. Marc Marquez has done more than I expected this year, but he can grow a little more. From a speed point of view, I still think he has something to show” concluded Gigi.
