Delta Air Lines brings pre-order Shake Shack Burgers on board as a first class treat

For passengers who crave their favorite comfort fast food on airplanes, Delta Air Lines has recently entered a partnership that will appeal to many burger lovers. The carrier has partnered with Shake Shack to serve burgers in premium cabins on select flights starting in December.

If you’re a Shake Shack fan and crave their burgers at 35,000 feet on a flight, Delta Air Lines may have a solution for you.

Starting December 1, passengers in the carrier’s first class cabin on flights out of Boston on routes longer than 900 miles will have the option of being served Shake Shack burgers.

Burger lovers can enjoy the delicious meal made of a 100% Angus beef patty, topped with cheese and served on a toasted potato bun on select Delta flights out of Boston from next month. Stephanie Laster, Managing Director of Delta’s Onboard Service, said,

“A delicious cheeseburger is an iconic comfort food – our customers know that which is why burgers are one of the top ordered menu items we offer, and we’re thrilled to elevate the offering with Shake Shack. However, our partnership with Shake Shack goes beyond the burger.

"Shake Shack’s people-first culture and commitment to enriching their neighborhoods are spot on with our own brand values of service excellence and helping the communities we serve.”

Michael Kark, President of Global Licensing at Shake Shack, commented,

“Taking our beloved cheeseburger to new heights, Shake Shack is proud to partner with Delta as we elevate the in-flight dining and hospitality experience for travelers across the country.”

Boston is just one of many airports in the country where Delta plans to expand this service. The airline said that throughout next year, it plans to add many other cities to the list.

So Delta travelers in other parts of the country can also expect to have this available on flights out of their airports.

This is, however, not an onboard meal on-demand service. Passengers wishing to enjoy this experience need to inform the airline in advance, starting seven days before the scheduled flight through the Fly Delta app or a link in their email.

This facility will be available up to 24 hours before the flight's departure and can be used by editing the entrée selection on the individual’s booking.

As competition among airlines heats up, they have to find several ways to differentiate their products. And onboard meal service can be a great hook if curated properly.

Carriers often collaborate with food and beverage brands and celebrity chefs to come up with interesting onboard meals.

For example, Air France partnered with triple-Michelin-star French chef Domonique Crenn to craft menus for its business class and La Premiere cabins.

Last year, JetBlue and Craftmix, which offers cocktail mixes, announced an exclusive partnership. The mixes were made available for purchase on all JetBlue flights.

Airlines also curate seasonal menus inspired by festivals or popular holidays. Emirates recently revealed its Thanksgiving-themed menu for flights between Dubai and the United States. Simple Flying has covered this in the article below.
