On Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, a Delta Air Lines transatlantic flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG) to the carrier's hub at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) had to be diverted due to a passenger that has been described as "unruly."
The aircraft diverted to Dublin Airport (DUB) in Ireland briefly to remove the passenger from the plane, before the jet continued on to Atlanta.
The airline has been quick to note that it has no tolerance for this kind of behavior and that the problematic individual was immediately handed over to the appropriate authorities.
The aircraft in question was an Airbus A330-300, completing regularly scheduled Delta Air Lines Flight 83.
No injuries have been reported, and the carrier has indicated its regret for the delay that it caused in the travel experience of hundreds of passengers who had no part in the difficult behavior.
The majority of the details involving how specifically the incident went down, however, remain mostly unclear.
Ireland's national police force filed charges against a roughly 30-year-old man, who appeared in front of the Dublin District Court at the Criminal Courts of Justice earlier this afternoon, according to reports from Atlanta-based local news outlet WBTV.
Official details regarding his charges, however, were not provided.
The aircraft would go on to complete the rest of its journey with a delay, returning to Atlanta and touching down around 4 PM.
Let's take a deeper look at the incident and everything we know about it so far.
The aircraft departed around 9 AM from Paris, with an expected arrival time of around 12:30 PM in Atlanta.
However, things would quickly go awry when the aircraft took a large turn to the right around an hour and a half into the flight, according to flight tracking data from the website FlightAware.
Around 10:30 AM, the aircraft touched down at Dublin Airport, where it remained for just about an hour before it took off at 11:42 AM local time.
The aircraft then continued its transatlantic journey before touching down at 3:40 PM in Atlanta, exactly two hours and 55 minutes behind schedule.
Delta has not yet responded to Simple Flying's request for comment regarding the cause of the incident.
