Ex-F1 driver asserts Max Verstappen won’t ‘dance to anyone’s tune’ after stellar Brazilian GP victory

Verstappen had a few on-track incidents with title contender Lando Norris in recent weeks. Critics slammed the Dutchman’s driving over these clashes.

However, Max Verstappen refused to change his way of racing despite the two time penalties at the Mexican GP.

Coulthard reckoned that the Red Bull driver’s victory at Interlagos would calm the growing anger against him.

Moreover, DC highlighted that Max Verstappen had showed yet again that he is his ‘own man’ who speaks his mind. As such, the Dutch driver not succumb to anyone else’s tunes.

It probably calmed a lot of the sort of growing sort of finger pointing and frustration or anger… that was building towards Max, because he’s his own man, he speaks his mind, he’s not going to dance to anyone’s tune, and that is divisive.

David Coulthard said on the Formula For Success podcast

Verstappen won the Brazilian GP from P17 on the grid in treacherous wet conditions. David Coulthard claimed that performances like these were the reason he fell in love with Formula 1 in the first place.

The 53-year-old reckoned that he loves to see drivers like Verstappen push themselves to the limit and pull off unbelievable drives.

It’s the sort of stuff that when I was reflecting on it, it’s the reason why I think I fell in love with this sport. It was about wanting to see excellence, seeing people doing things that you go, ‘That’s unbelievable’ but it is a fact.

David Coulthard noted

Max Verstappen’s drive at Interlagos was perhaps the best performance of 2024. The reigning world champion now shifts focus to the Las Vegas GP, where he could be crowned a four-time champion.

However, it remains to be seen if the Dutchman can fulfill this massive accomplishment in ‘Sin City.’
