Isack Hadjar explains why Max Verstappen is ‘most complete’ driver in F1 compared to Lewis Hamilton

In the last four years he not only brought the kind of success last had with Sebastian Vettel back at Red Bull, but he entered the list of the top three all-time winners standing behind only Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.

At 27 years old there is no signs that he will be stopping any time soon, despite rumours that Verstappen could move away from Red Bull and make the switch to another team.

All drivers have to go through the challenge of switching teams at some stage, but there would likely be no better driver placed than Verstappen to go through it.

The latest Red Bull hotshot, French driver Isack Hadjar, believes Verstappen is one of the most complete drivers on the grid compared to Hamilton and explained why in an interview with Romain Monti.

One of the things that characterises Verstappen on track is his ability to get into the head of his rivals mentally, effectively forcing them to concede position when they see him coming.

It’s a similar tactic that was used by Schumacher and Ayrton Senna, with it only display during his various skirmishes with Lando Norris last season.

Norris would often commit an unforced error because he was not used to racing Verstappen aggressively, and Hadjar believes this is why he is a cut above the rest including Hamilton.

“From my point of view he is too complete in all conditions. Mentally, he’s too strong.

After that I think Hamilton is at the same level in racing. In terms of pace he’s really competitive, but I’d say Max is still the most complete,” said Hadjar.

Verstappen will have his fifth teammate at Red Bull this year in the form of Liam Lawson, who makes the step up from Racing Bulls.

It will be the first time in his career that he has a teammate who is younger in age than him, having previously always been older than the others (Daniel Ricciardo, Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Sergio Perez).

Yuki Tsunoda was expected to be the driver to be chosen by Red Bull given he is the most experienced out of the pair.

Helmut Marko believes Tsunoda does not have the mental strength to go up against Verstappen, which is why he was snubbed in favour of Lawson.

By contrast, Lawson has already impressed Red Bull during his debut because he put himself in a position to score points.

He’s also shown that he can go up against some of the best in F1, including Fernando Alonso who had words for Lawson after their US GP tangle.
