Martin: "Mom has the cup! It's a big challenge to change bikes with the #1"

Nearly three weeks after the grand finale of the season held at Montmelo, the newly crowned MotoGP champion Jorge Martin returned to a public event in the context of the Ducati party organized in Bologna.

Despite the fact that a few days have passed, the euphoria of what he has achieved has not yet gone away.

"It's great to be champion, even though I haven't been able to go home even one day and now I'm a little tired," he confided to the media present at the event, "I thank life for this opportunity. It is a privilege to be in this position.

Gradually I am assimilating everything and I am very happy for my family, my team and everyone involved. How was the last weekend? I was a little nervous on Saturday, but otherwise I was calm."

Without fear of sounding arrogant, the Spaniard confessed that he always believed in the maximum result. "I expected it.

I was sure I could do it. If you start with the thought of not winning then it's better to stay at home," he said.

So many emotions have been experienced since the fateful date of November 15 that crowned him champion. "The celebration in San Sebastian de los Reyes touched me a lot and also seeing the people supporting me since 2011/2012.

I also celebrated there the success in Moto3 in 2018. It was beautiful, but I have to say that all the things that are happening to me are. As said, I would like to go home now, however I am enjoying the moment."

As with all sportsmen, for the 26-year-old after having put one year into the archives it is necessary to start thinking about the next. "The goal for 2025?I don't know, we'll see.

Initially we will have to build and learn. Everything will depend on our starting level. From there we will have to try to improve every day and then who knows.

Maybe we will do well right away and then we can think big, otherwise we will have to progress as we go. In any case, I think the potential is very high."

Awaiting him will be a major unknown, the one represented by Aprilia's RS-GP which is miles away from the performance of the powerful Desmosedici.

"It's a very big challenge to change bikes with the number one. It is not easy to go from a winning project to one that is not, but this gives me a lot of motivation.

Staying with Ducati would have been nice because I would have aimed for an encore right away, but this decision spurs me on to do something that remains."

Despite the brand change, the affection for Borgo Panigale remains: "I can only thank the brand, as it gave me the opportunity to get into MotoGP.

When I arrived it was not the easiest bike, but we had mutual trust, plus it allowed me to fight for the World Championship until the end in spite of what everyone believed."

Finally a word about the cup. "Mom has it at home and won't give it up," he joked, "I hope I can bring it to Madrid because it is beautiful since it is built from history. That is also why I want to have it and take it around."
