There are many things to hear from a MotoGP world champion, a title that Jorge Martin has achieved this year at the controls of the Ducati of Prima Pramac.
Despite having already ridden his new bike, the Aprilia, he has mostly spoken about everything that has happened this year.
In addition, it has not been his first invitation to this podcast, recalling a very key moment from the past when Martin predicted being champion in the next 3 years.
To start with, an anecdote that he has not told about the party after the FIM gala:
“At around 3:30 in the morning I knew that Pecco, my biggest rival for the last two years, was in the discotheque next door. I grabbed Aleix, I grabbed the owner of MotoGP and I said to them:
'Let's go hang out with Pecco for a while'. And we went to the party with Pecco, who had been my biggest rival, which is kind of incompatible, and we were there with him talking and laughing and I think that this is something unique that you don't see in other sports.
Well, sometimes yes, but in motorcycling it had never been seen before. In the end he celebrated that he had achieved 11 victories, he has put himself in numbers like Valentino, Lorenzo, Márquez... very crazy” , Jorge explained the situation.
“For me, fear or pressure… In the end, when you try to reject it, it becomes bigger,” Jorge Martin admitted. “I have understood that the pressure, I mean, I am playing in a world championship, the pressure, I mean, I don’t want to avoid the pressure, the pressure is there and it will always be bigger,” he explained how he deals with the pressure that the drivers feel, especially when the championship is at stake.
Martin is clear about it: “Accepting the pressure and saying 'okay, welcome the pressure, I'm going to enjoy having it because if I have it it's for a reason'. Or fear, I think it's good to have it.
I wouldn't turn it into motivation in my case, but accepting it and saying that if I have it it's because I'm playing for something big, because I'm in a position where I've earned that pressure. Pressure is a privilege, as Roland Garros says,” said the player from San Sebastián de los Reyes.
The controversy that splashed him directly among the Spanish television programs. “I was giving David a gift, a helmet that I later gave him. And suddenly my team called me saying that 'La Revuelta' couldn't be done, that it was impossible to do it.
They found out from 'El Hormiguero', some things happened. I was also not allowed to do 'La Revuelta' from higher up, I had no choice.
I also went with David [Broncano], who didn't want to record but in the end I convinced him, I don't know how, to record and there is a recorded program that will never see the light of day” , he told his point of view.
Jorge Martin has not only been invited to the podcast once, but it was previously in 2023 when they asked him a question: Are you going to be MotoGP champion in the next 3 years?
To which the Madrid native said yes and has now been invited with his crown in the elite of motorcycling.
“I made a tweet in Valencia 2023 that I told my team: 'I promise you that I will make you world champions'. And I have done it.
Yes, I have had a thousand doubts, but saying what you dream of and being able to expose it at the end gives it a lot of strength,” he commented.
The most talented rider I have ever seen:
“I would say Marc Márquez, because obviously he has been the best in history for me on a sporting level, but I have not raced with him for so many years and perhaps I have not seen him at his best.
Then I will say the one who has been the Superbike world champion, a Turk, Toprak Razgatlioglu. This guy in a pre-season test with Moto3 in the 'Rookies Cup' would pass us in the wet on the outside as if it were dry.
And this is something that has always struck me, it's amazing, maybe not many people know him but he has been Superbike world champion twice. Apart from that, he would do inverted wheelies and I think that is talent and pure skill and I would say that” , Martin confessed.
