Carlo Pernat is often in the spotlight. Enea Bastianini's manager knows the MotoGP paddock very well and frequently speaks about the different events.
In this case, he spoke to GPOne about the current events of the championship and Marc Marquez's signing for Ducati.
“Aprilia and KTM have come closer to Ducati, although there is still a fairly large gap. For the spectacle, it was very nice but at the rider level.
At the bike level, I will say no, because Aprilia and KTM have encountered problems.
But I will say that, in summary, I give this World Championship a 9” began Pernat's analysis of the 2024 season.
He also spoke very clearly about Marquez and his signing for Ducati:
“Let's say that this championship was also dictated by Marc Marquez's desire to get back on track. Marquez found Dall'Igna and they made a blood pact, in the good sense of the word, in which Marquez's move was probably planned before seeing the World Championship that Martin had” he began explaining, and continued:
“But this is important, because the Dorna system and the movement of the World Championship, have a Marquez who competes for the championship, and that is an important thing for the show, the audience…
In my opinion, it was also Marc’s decision, who came back from very difficult conditions and gave up a lot of money.
But I think that the Dorna system would have given a boost to this signing. The system has worked towards the 2025 and 2026 system” he explains.
In 2025 we will be able to see a great team inside the Ducati garage, even what many consider a “dream team”.
With Marquez and his eight World titles on one side, and Bagnaia with his three on the other, the Borgo Panigale factory will boast the highest number of titles inside a garage for the first time.
That is why Pernat took the opportunity to predict what the Ducati box will be like from 2025 onwards:
“Next year will be very important, because we have a team with Marquez and Bagnaia, and you cannot prioritise one over the other. That is to say, if you give something to Bagnaia, you have to give it to Marquez, and vice versa. I think that there will be no problems between the two of them, because they are also two great professionals, so I don't think they will handle each other well. That will be the main thing.”
Jorge Martín will ride for Aprilia next season, but will leave with his World title. Pernat spoke about the key to the rider's success:
“The key to Martín's victory goes beyond the team and the bike. He is a champion, and he has done a lot of work with a mental coach, who is a very good sports psychologist who has put him in these conditions. Maybe he would have won anyway, I don't know, but he himself recognised it” he said about the current World Champion.
