United Airlines and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) have announced an expansion worth more than half a billion dollars at Washington Dulles International Airport.
The expansion plans include a new 435,000-square-foot concourse, an upgraded United Club, and advanced customer amenities.
The new Concourse E, expected to be completed by late 2026, is a collaboration between United and MWAA.
It will receive local and federal funding and grants from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
It will feature 14 gates, an expansive new United Club location, and cutting-edge amenities.
United Airlines, the largest airline in the D.C. region, will open a new flight attendant training center in 2025.
The airline currently operates 25% more flights compared to 2023 and continues extending its network with new destinations.
This investment at Dulles follows similar infrastructure investments by United at airports in Denver, Houston, and Newark.
It is part of United's United Next plan, which aims to invest in infrastructure, people, and technology.
Construction has begun on Concourse E, which will house 14 dedicated United gates and will provide additional space for United's new widebody and mainline planes.
The concourse will also offer direct access to the airport's existing Aerotrain station for smoother transport between the main terminal and other concourses.
In addition to its expansion plans, United is growing its flight network out of Dulles.
The airline has already launched 13 new domestic routes from the hub this year and plans to grow to nearly 280 daily flights by April 2025.
United employs over 8,000 people in the D.C. area and plans to hire about 9,000 more in 2024, including more than 700 people in the Washington D.C. area.
The airline has also announced the construction of a new 20,000-square-foot Inflight Training Center near Dulles Airport, set to open in 2025.
