United Airlines is one of the largest carriers in the world, with the vast majority of its flights departing from or arriving in the US. However, the Star Alliance member does operate a small number of non-US routes, primarily on its island hopper services around the Pacific Ocean.
Using data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, let's take a closer look at the non-US services that United Airlines will operate in December 2024.
Kwajalein (KWA) - Pohnpei (PNI)
4 flights
In December 2024, United Airlines will operate four flights in each direction between Bucholz Army Airfield (KWA) on the island of Kwajalein and Pohnpei International Airport (PNI). This is one of four non-US routes that United Airlines operates to Pohnpei. In addition, the carrier also connects Pohnpei to both Guam (GUM) and Honolulu (HNL).
United Airlines deploys its Boeing 737-800s on the route, each capable of carrying up to 166 passengers in a two-class configuration. The latest data from ch-aviation shows that the carrier currently has 141 737-800s in its fleet, with an average age of around 21 years old. United Airlines' Boeing 737-800s come in several different cabin configurations:

Majuro (MAJ) - Pohnpei (PNI)
5 flights
United Airlines will fly five times in each direction between Mashall Islands International Airport (MAJ) and Pohnpei International Airport (PNI) in December 2024. Just like services between Kwajalein and Pohnpei, the Star Alliance member will use its Boeing 737-800s on this route too.
United Airlines faces direct competition from Nauru Airlines on the route. Nauru Airlines is the flag carrier of the Republic of Nauru and flies a fleet of Boeing 737 family aircraft on services to other Pacific islands and Australia.
Koror (ROR) - Manila (MNL)
9 flights
In December 2024, United Airlines will operate nine flights in each direction between Roman Tmetuchl International Airport (ROR) on the island of Palau and Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in the Philippines. The carrier deploys its Boeing 737-800s on the 1,042-mile route.
Roman Tmetuchl International Airport, located near the former capital Koror, handles flights from several international carriers, including:
- Air Niugini - Port Moresby (POM), Tokyo Narita (NRT)
- Cambodia Angkor Air - Hong Kong (HKG), Phnom Penh (PNH)
- China Airlines - Taipei Taoyuan (TPE)
- Qantas - Brisbane (BNE).
Kosrae (KSA) - Pohnpei (PNI)
9 flights
United Airlines will also operate nine flights each way between Kosrae International Airport (KSA) and Pohnpei International Airport (PNI) in December 2024. Like the other routes in this list, the carrier deploys its Boeing 737-800s on the route.
Kosrae International Airport is located on an artificial island around 150 m (492 ft) off the coast, and is connected to the main island by a causeway.
Kwajalein (KWA) - Kosrae (KSA)
9 flights
Another route operated nine times in each direction in December 2024 is between Kwajalein and Kosrae. These services are also operated by the Boeing 737-800.
Bucholz Army Airfield (KWA) was originally built by Japan in 1943 before being taken over by the US in 1944. The airfield was subsequently developed into a major US Military airbase and was heavily utilized for the remainder of World War II. After the war, the airport was also used for a series of nuclear tests.
Majuro (MAJ) - Kwajalein (KWA)
13 flights
In December 2024, United Airlines will operate 13 flights in each direction between Majuro and Kwajalein, also with the Boeing 737-800.
Marshall Islands International Airport (MAJ), located on the island of Majuro, is home to the country's flag carrier, Air Marshall Islands. The airline operates a small fleet of turboprop aircraft on interisland services across the Central Pacific.
Chuuk (TKK) - Pohnpei (PNI)
23 flights
United Airlines will fly 23 times between Chuuk International Airport (TKK) and Pohnpei International Airport (PNI) with its fleet of Boeing 737-800s. The other destinations, both US and non-US, served by the carrier from Chuuk are:
- Guam (GUM)
- Honolulu (HNL)
- Kosrae (KSA)
- Kwajalein (KWA)
- Majuro (MAJ).
Tokyo Narita (NRT) - Cebu (CEB)
31 flights
United Airlines operates a daily service with its Boeing 737-800s between Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) and Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). The route is 2,033 miles long.
With more than 10 million passengers annually, Mactan-Cebu International Airport is the second-busiest airport in the Philippines, after Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL). United Airlines faces direct competition from Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines on its route between Cebu and Tokyo Narita.
Further non-US growth on the horizon
United Airlines' non-US route network will expand considerably in 2025, when the carrier is due to launch a series of new routes from its hub at Tokyo Narita Airport. These include:
