United Airlines to introduce first direct flights from San Francisco to Panama City starting may 2025

Travelers looking to fly direct from the Bay to the gateway of the Americas have cause to celebrate.

Starting May 22, 2025, United Airlines is set to commence nonstop service from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Panama City, Panama, marking the first time such a service has been available.

According to a press release from the San Francisco International Airport, the new route will be a daily year-round service and distinguish United as the only U.S. carrier to offer direct flights to Panama City from San Francisco.

The anticipation surrounding this service is palpable, with both United and airport officials expressing high hopes for its success.

"We are very excited to welcome nonstop United Airlines flights from SFO to Panama in 2025," said Ivar C. Satero, Airport Director of SFO, in a statement per the San Francisco International Airport.

This move, Satero suggests, exhibits United's steadfast partnership with the airport, offering passengers more options to reach Latin America seamlessly.

The flight, which will be operated using Boeing 737 aircraft, is part of a broader expansion of United's Latin American network from SFO, including their recent commencement of flights to Monterrey, Mexico, and the upcoming launch of service to Belize and San Jose, Costa Rica.

Passengers itching to plan their Central American explorations can look forward to a more direct route to Panama's vibrant capital city.

Following the earlier announcement of their nonstop flights from SFO to Monterrey, Mexico, as of October 2024, Belize starting December 21, and San Jose, Costa Rica, commencing on the same date as the Panama service, United Airlines is undeniably expanding its footprint in the region.
