Delta's annual profit-sharing
This year, Delta Air Lines’ Profit Sharing Day will fall on February 14th, Valentine’s Day.
The company will give eligible employees an estimated payout of 10% of their eligible earnings, equivalent to an additional five weeks of pay.
Delta will distribute up to $1.4 billion of its 2024 profits as it celebrates its centennial anniversary .
According to The Detroit News, the carrier’s Michigan-based employees will receive nearly $114 million, a 3.5% increase from the $110 million distributed in 2023.
Delta reportedly employs over 4,750 employees in Michigan. Delta’s profit-sharing scheme is a reminder of the significance of its people to the company’s culture. Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said,
“Every day, Delta people prove themselves to be difference makers in this industry. I’m proud to recognize their unmatched professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to excellence with one of our strongest profit-sharing years in Delta’s history.”
Over the last 10 years, the airline has rewarded its employees with over $10 billion in profit-sharing.
The scheme is key to Delta’s commitment to industry-leading total compensation for optimal performance. Profit-sharing is one of many ways the carrier invests in its employees.
Delta also offers competitive base pay, coupled with annual increases and monthly shared rewards for reaching operational targets.
Additionally, the airline offers free financial coaching with the ability to earn $1,000 for emergency savings, generous contributions to 401(k) retirement savings, and other initiatives.
Delta’s 2024 financial results
Delta saw a good financial year in 2024. The airline ended Q4 2024 with a net income of $843 million and the year with $3.4 billion.
The figures are adjusted to $1.2 billion for the quarter and $3.9 billion for the full year.
The carrier reported record full-year revenue, $5 billion of pre-tax income, $8 billion of operating cash flow, and $3.4 billion of free cash flow.
This year, the airline aims to generate over $6 billion in pre-tax income and more than $4 billion in free cash flow, an 18% increase from 2024. Delta expects strong demand for travel to continue, with passengers increasingly flying in premium classes. CEO Ed Bastian said:
“As we move into 2025, we expect strong demand for travel to continue, with consumers increasingly seeking the premium products and experiences that Delta provides. Our differentiated strategy and best-in-class operations, combined with demand strength and an increasingly constructive industry backdrop, position us to deliver the best financial year in Delta's 100-year history, with pre-tax income greater than $6 billion, earnings per share greater than $7.35 and free cash flow of more than $4 billion.”
Flights to and from Michigan
Delta serves 12 airports in Michigan State with its own aircraft and through other service carriers.
Detroit Wayne County is one of its busiest hubs after Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL).
According to data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, Delta markets over 290 daily flights from Detroit to over 100 destinations worldwide.
Delta now has five Sky Clubs at its Detroit hub, with the most recent one opening in December 2021. It is 4,600 sq ft and can accommodate up to 100 guests.
